Ffynone House School

Ffynone House School is Swansea’s only independent coeducational secondary school. Ffynone House School provides an education for life in an atmosphere where pupils from a variety of backgrounds feel secure and equally valued. In addition to promoting a strong work ethic we strive to foster a sense of social responsibility, personal development and independent thinking.

As a Charitable Trust existing solely for the benefit of pupils, Ffynone House School operates in close working partnership with staff, parents and Trustees. The highly supportive ‘Friends of Ffynone’, our Parents and Friends Association (PFA), contributes to fund-raising activities and runs a lively programme of social events for parents and pupils.

Ffynone House School offers a range of creative, cultural, sporting and adventurous activities through which pupils learn to work cooperatively and develop leadership skills. Confidence building performance skills are encouraged with extensive opportunities in drama, music, debating and public speaking.

Ffynone House School encourages pupils to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme and has recently become a licensed scheme provider. As the school is situated in Swansea, the pupils have access to fantastic beaches, the amazing scenery of the Gower Peninsula and the majestic Brecon Beacons.

To help Ffynone House School with the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme the PFA purchased tents and trangias for use on expeditions. Our pupils walk and camp on the lovely Gower Peninsula for the Bronze award. To complete the Silver Award walking on more upland hill terrain is required, and the school’s proximity to the Brecon Beacons allows the pupils to complete the silver award without travelling too far from home.

Ffynone House School staff collaborate closely with the PFA, which helps provide funding for equipment that will add value to the pupils’ learning experiences. Recently the PFA have focused our fundraising on providing extra equipment for those with Additional Learning Needs, purchasing Samsung tablets to aid learning in the classroom. The PFA also provided a collection of board games and sports equipment for use in the yard at break times.

The teachers at Ffynone House School requested the purchase of several visualisers to enable them to share pupil work and show close-up details with whole classes via the interactive whiteboards. These are relatively inexpensive items that have greatly enhanced the classroom experience for both pupils and teachers. We could not have purchased these without the extra funds raised from The Giving Machine donations!

Since registering Ffynone House School with The Giving Machine, the PFA has enlisted a small group of regular “givers” and we have just reached a major milestone having raised £1000 through shopping using the scheme. We are proof that even with a small group of people shopping regularly, it is possible to raise a significant amount of money with little effort! I wish we had joined a few years earlier. Our goal is to get new parents to sign up when their children start at the school and double the number of givers in the next two years.

The Giving Machine has allowed Ffynone House School to raise funds with seemingly no effort! We are grateful to the staff at The Giving Machine and we give our thanks to those who may support us through being cause of the month.
